GETTING PREPARED

Sailing on SULTANA is a once in a lifetime experience so we strongly recommend that participants come prepared to take advantage of it. First and foremost, please arrive at SULTANA well rested and healthy. Life onboard is fun, but rigorous. Make sure you get a few good nights of sleep before you arrive! While not required, some advance reading can greatly enhance your experience on SULTANA. Listed below are several suggestions for books about the Chesapeake Bay and Tall Ship sailing that you might want to read.

“Chesapeake” by James A. Michener

“Beautiful Swimmers” by William Warner

Horatio Hornblower Series, by C. S. Forester

“Bay Country” by Tom Horton

“Turning the Tide” by Tom Horton

“True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle” by “Avi”

Finally, and most importantly, it is imperative that you pack proper clothing and gear for your trip. There is very limited space on SULTANA so we ask that you follow the packing guidelines below.
